Background: In 2018 the Ministry of Education conducted a major consultation on Education reform. The Government’s consultation consists of eight questions posed in an online forum, as well as in moderated telephone town halls held in several regions across Ontario. The consultation included questions relating to health and physical education and a parents’ bill of rights.
- REVIEW current Curriculum and determine if a balanced exists to protect parental rights and/or religious freedom with the rights of students and other stakeholders in the education system
- ENFORCE existing legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements and case law that currently exists to balance rights of parents with both the duties of publicly funded school boards
- Parents need to be included in the initial stages of development of existing and new curriculum
- Curriculum development MUST have in-depth consultations with parents and community leaders to determine how curriculum impact on local community and parent rights
continuum of learning where students develop, refine and demonstrate their skills and knowledge from Kindergarten through Grade 12
- ACCESS to all PA material being taught to ES and HS students
- REVIEW DEI and CRT learning objectives and its implementation beyond the classroom
- REVIEW of the Trillium Book list and selection process
- RESTRICT BOARDS and schools from selecting books not on the Trillium List to supplement provincial learning objectives
EXPECTATION DESIRED: Parents will have a say in the development of curriculum in three main areas
Program Planning (general information); Curriculum Context (information for specific curriculum) and curriculum Expectations (what students learn) and Teacher Supports (how students might learn).
